![]() Legend of Peddamma Temple Legend says that the supreme ascetic, Lord Shiva, opened his third eye after being disturbed by the hostility of Mahishasura. This unleashed the fire of doom. However even after this, the Mahishasura’s march could not be arrested. Thus a bright stream of lightning emerged from the mouths of Lord Brahma, the creator, which took the form of Goddess Brahmi. Subsequently all the other gods put on their powers to create a female form Mahishasura Mardini, Durga, who later killed the demon Mahishasura. The goddess is thus greatly revered at Peddamma temple. Festivals of Peddamma Temple Bonalu festival is celebrated during the months of June-July every year and the celebration of this festival is worth enjoying. Peddamma temple is visited by a number of devotees and prayers and sacrifices are offered by them to The Mother throughout the year. The Mother is also believed to bestow her blessings on the devotees who pray to the goddess every day. Devotees also believe that the goddess is their saviour and they thus worship them everyday. Rathotsavam and Mahotsavam are two other major events dedicated to the goddess. The history of Peddamma temple is shrouded in mystery and it is not known exactly when the temple was built. However it is believed that the temple is about 150 years old. Previously it was a small temple but it became very popular in the 1993 after which the Rajagopuram was constructed. Apart from common folks, Peddamma temple is also visited by plethora of industrialists, politicians and VIPs who come here to pray to the Amma. |
