Geeta Kapoor is a popular Indian choreographer who is known for her dexterity in Indian classical as well as western dance forms. She has choreographed a number of dance sequences for Bollywood films in addition to concerts, award ceremonies and other events. She started her career as a dancer and had appeared in a few films as a background dancer. Initially she used to assist other choreographers but later started taking up independent projects. Geeta Kapoor has been seen in various television shows as a mentor and judge.
Early Life of Geeta Kapoor
Geeta Kapoor was born in Mumbai on 5th July 1973. Since childhood she had a keen interest in dancing. She had also received training in Indian classical dancing.
Career of Geeta Kapoor
Geeta Kapoor began her career at the age of 15 when she joined the troupe of reputed Bollywood choreographer Farah Khan. Afterwards she started assisting in the choreography of various films such as Om Shanti Om, Main Hoon Na, Kal Ho Na Ho, Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and many more.
In the initial phase of her career she has also worked as a background dancer for a number of dance sequences such as 'Gori Gori' from Main Hoon Na, 'Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aaye' from movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and 'Dum Tara' of Suchitra Krishnamoorthi. She has worked as a full fledged choreographer in movies including Alladin, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, Heyy Baby, Saathiya, Asoka, Fiza, Shirin Farhad Ki Nikal Padi, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya and Tees Maar Khan (Sheila Ki Jawani). She has also worked for the opening ceremony of Pepsi IPL 2013 and concerts like Temptation Reloaded. She has persistently showcased her expertise in blending modern and classical dance forms.
In television, Geeta Kapoor made her debut with the reality show Dance India Dance (DID) in the year 2008 which was aired on Zee TV. In the show she appeared as a judge along with Remo D'Souza, Terrence Lewis and Mithun Chakrabarty. She also made a special appearance in DID Lil Masters which was judged by her mentor Farah Khan and Sandip Soparkar. Her next venture was DID Doubles. In the year 2012 Geeta Kapoor appeared in DID Lil Masters as a judge. She has also judged the show Dance Ke Superkids and India's Dancing Superstar.
