Desasevini Grameena Vayanasala, Ernakulam District, KeralaDesasevini Grameena Vayanasala, situated in Puliyanam of Ernakulam district in Kerala, is a grade A public library which serves as a vital information hub for the people of the region. Established in 1947, it is also an important cultural centre for Puliyanam. The library houses a great collection of about 12000 books encompassing various disciplines. It also hosts a separate student`s corner, a children`s corner called Balavedi and a Mahatma Gandhi corner. Reference books in Desasevini Grameena Vayanasala numbers around 300 including diverse subjects.

Desasevini Grameena Vayanasala is managed by an organizing committee of eleven executive members who serve for a period of four years. The library generates revenue from its members and also receives a government grant of Rs. 20000 for the purchase of books in a financial year of April to March. The library also receives an annual grant for purchasing books and organizing activities for Balavedi and students corner. The librarian allowance of Rs.18000 is also received by the library. Every year about 500 new books are added to the collection.

The present building of Desasevini Grameena Vayanasala was constructed in the year 1996 with the efforts and physical as well as financial aid of the people around Puliyanam. It also has a big reading hall for the users. The library has over 1500 active members. Two librarians serve the library with two different modes of operation. Desasevini Grameena Vayanasala also provides home delivery service. The jubilee celebration of the library was inaugurated by Pro. K. Sachidanandan on 4th November 2007. The library is known to be the first local library of Kerala having its own library management software which was built by the committee members in 2004-07.
