Chandogya Upanishad, one of the oldest Upanishad has been written during the Vedic Brahmana period. Chandogya Upanishad is associated with Sama Veda. It is ranked ninth in the Muktika canon of hundred and eight Upanishadas. The 6th Khanda of Second Chapter of Chandogya Upanishad states about the meditation on the Fivefold Saman as animals. According to this one must adorn and meditate on the fivefold Saman as animals. Here, the goats are the syllable Him, the sheep the Prastava, the cows the Udgitha, the horses the Pratihara and the man the Nidhana. One who realises this and meditates on the fivefold Saman as the animals becomes rich and the animals become a source of enjoyment and rejoice for him.
