His portrayal of the character `Chatur Ramalingam` in movie earned him great appreciations. He stepped into the entertainment world through American television series and commercials. His notable acting skills gradually brought him to Bollywood where he gained much fame and recognition. Apart form acting, he has worked as an editor in some movies and has also directed a few short films.

Early Life of Omi Vaidya
Omi Vaidya was born on 10th January 1982 in Joshua Tree in Yucca Valley, California. He began acting at the tender age of six when he used to perform in Marathi Mandal Nataks and a few English play in the US. He did his graduation from the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. Later, for the next two years, he studied at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Afterwards he also attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University where he graduated with honours. His education in high school enlightened him more about acting and inspired him to pursue a career in this arena. Film school at New York University taught him the techniques of editing, filmmaking and acting. After completing his education, Omi Vaidya started auditioning for roles in commercials and television serials.

Career of Omi Vaidya
Omi Vaidya`s career started right after his college when he began working with an agent through which he got minor roles in television commercials and serials. Omi Vaidya, Bollywood ActorHe started acting with the American television series Arrested Development, in which he portrayed a small role. After this he received a call for auditioning by the same casting director for another television series The Office, for the role of Sadiq. He played the role of Sadiq in two episodes of the series namely Fun Run and E-mail Surveillance. However the actor gained prominence through the music video of a Punjabi song `Kurti` which was sung by Bohemia. His journey in Bollywood began with the movie 3 idiots in 2009 which got him his most enduring character `Chatur Ramalingam`. The actor auditioned for the role in one of his trip to Mumbai.He received critical acclamations for his notable performance in the movie. After being selected in the auditions, Omi was instructed not to watch Hindi movies and study Hindi and to put on weight for the better portrayal of the character. He was also restricted form giving interviews before the release of the movie. The success of 3 idiots and his role in the same paved his way for receiving further Bollywood projects. In the following years he performed in the movies Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji, Desi Boyz, Players and Jodi Breakers. He also directed two short film viz. Out of Time and The Desert Rose, both in the year 2007. The movies in which he worked as an editor include Out of Time (2003), Delusion (2004), Bloodshed (2005), The Gold Bracelet (2006), Remember the Days (2007) and Blind Ambition (2008).

Achievements of Omi Vaidya
In the year 2010 Omi Vaidya won the Star Screen Awards for Best Comedian and for Most Promising Newcomer - Male, both for the movie 3 idiots. In the same year and for the same movie he also won IIFA Awards for Star Debut of the Year - Male and Lions Gold Awards for Best Supporting Actor - Male.

On 22nd August 2009, Omi Vaidya married Minal Patel.
