Sree Bhavaneeswara Temple located in Palluruthy in Kochi in the Indian state of Kerala was established on 8th March 1916 by the famous saint and social reformer Sree Narayana Guru. The temple is owned and maintained by Sree Dharma Paripalana Yogam that was founded in 1904 under the patronage of Sree Narayana Guru. The temple houses the idols of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
Construction of Sree Bhavaneeswara Temple
The interior portion of the Sree Bhavaneeswara Temple has been adorned with wood carvings. The SDPY is a charitable society functioning for the last 102 years for the spiritual growth and educational development of the Ezhava community. Sree Bhavaneeswara Temple is the main institution under the SDPY. Sree Narayana Gurudevan after establishing the temple laid the foundation of a lower primary school under the SDPY.
Festivals of Sree Bhavaneeswara Temple
Sree Bhavaneeswara Temple celebrates the Mahotsavam (Grand Festival) on a large scale. The festival is celebrated every year for 11 days during the months February to March. On the 1stday the flag is hoisted and on the 11th day the Pooyam Kavadi procession is organised. On the 10th day Pallivetta is conducted and the 11th day concludes with the Arattu. Sri Narayana Jayanthi and Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi day are the other two important days observed by the temple. The Swarna Dwaja Pratista Day is also observed every year immediately after the Mahotsavam celebrations. Nava Graha Homam is performed on all Sundays.
