Flora and Fauna of Topchanchi Wildlife Sanctuary
The flora that dominates in the dense woodlands of the Topchanchi Wildlife Sanctuary are loaded with a huge variety of trees belonging to the different species that include Asan, Bijasal, Dhow, Semal, Kendu, Piar, Karam, Siris, Sidha etc. The forests here are of dry mixed deciduous type with dry peninsular Sal in the terrains of Baneshpur and Bawardhara. The sanctuary is also blessed with a tinge of sprawling grasslands and bamboo trees.
The sanctuary has a rich fauna including animals like the barking deer, cheetal, langur, wild boar, jackal, mongoose, fox, etc. Topchanchi wildlife sanctuary is famous for its flow of migratory birds like pochards, red crested pochards and coots. Resident birds include bronze winged jacanas, pond herons, egrets, swamp partridges, etc. The Topchanchi Lake nearby adds to the richness of the habitat and is visited by these migratory winter birds.

The best time of the year to visit Topchanchi Wildlife Sanctuary is between the months of October to June. The Ranchi Airport is the nearest, located at a distance of about 147 km away from the wildlife sanctuary. The Gomoh railway station is just at a mere distance of about 10 km from this sanctuary.
