The Bastar Palace was built by the rulers of Bastar State. The palace bears a historically importance and is visited by thousands of tourists who visit to have a look of the momentous architectural splendour. The palace has been named after the district of Bastar.
According to history the Bastar was been built during the ancient times when the rulers of Bastar shifted their capital from Barsur to Jagdalpur. The main attraction of this palace is the exquisite carvings and engravings that are visible on the walls and ceiling of the palace. Additionally, it's a fort that glitters in the sunlight. The government has built a monument inside the palace vicinity, wherein tourists can enjoy seeing various artefacts and the portraits of the bygone kings. The beautiful gardens that encircle the palace are a sight to behold.
Although the Royal Family resides in the palace, a part of the palace has been converted into a medical college. The palace does not have any accommodation facility for the visitors but meals are served to the guests.

The Palace is considered as one of the major heritage destinations in the state that invites and fascinates the tourists. The numbering of the Bastar Palace comes under the list of the chief attraction of the Heritage Tours of Chhattisgarh. Every week, a 'haat bazaar' is held nearby the Palace of Bastar. The best time to visit the palace is during Dussehra (October) when the whole palace is adorned with lightings and a 75 day long tribal festival is celebrated. There are many other interesting places for sight seeing, in Bastar like the Shilpigram, Anthropological Museum and Danteshwari Temple.
