Khartok Monastery is a major monastery of Sikkim
and it has been named after the Lama who was part of the coronation of the first monarch of Sikkim. This is the sixth oldest monastery of Sikkim which is built on the lineage of Nyingma order. It was built during the reign of Chogyal Thutob Namgyal. The original monastery was destroyed but was replaced by new structure. The renovated version was, however, built on the old architecture and design which retains the cultural heritage of Sikkim.
