The 15th century brick Vishnu Temple

History of Bishnupur District
Originally known as Lumlangdong, currently Lamangdong the history of Bishnupur district can be traced back to the ancient times when Kyamba ascended the throne in Manipur in 1467 AD. During his reign, the relation between the Pong king Khe- Khomba and Kyamba flourished and thus resulted in a decent foreign policy. It was during his time that the worship of Hindu God
, Vishnu started in Manipur and it was under his patronage that the brick temple
of Lord Vishnu
was built in Bishnupur.
