Early Life of Dia Mirza Dia Mirza was born, as Dia Mirza Handrich on 9 December 1981 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Frank Handrich, her father, was a German interior designer and her Bengali mother Deepa Mirza is an interior designer and landscaper. Her parents separated when she was only six years old. Dia Mirza lost her father when she was nine and her mother again married Ahmed Mirza. She attended Vidyaranya High School for Boys and Girls, a school based on the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti. She completed her schooling from Nasr School, in Kushnuma and completed her graduation in Bachelors of Arts from Open University, Hyderabad. She underwent one-week course of Film at New York University. Early Career of Dia Mirza Dia Mirza first came into limelight when was honoured with the title of Miss Asia Pacific in the year 2000 becoming the first Indian contestant to win this title in 29 years. She was also the second runner up in the Miss India 2000 beauty contest. Eminent trainers, beauticians and designers like Sabira Merchant, Anjali Mukherjee, Ritu Kumar and others helped her with grooming. Later she appeared in many advertisements like Walls, Lipton and Emami. Film Career of Dia Mirza Dia Mirza made her cinematic debut with the romantic film Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein opposite Madhavan. A series of films followed; among them notable ones are Tumsa Nahin Dekha with Salman Khan and Deewaanapan opposite Arjun Rampal. In 2005, Mirza appeared in a Vidhu Vinod Chopra's production Parineeta. She also played a part in the music video 'Kajara Mohabbat Wala' alongside Sonu Nigam from the album Kajara Nite. The album featured a number of multiple remixes. Dia Mirza has also appeared in Dus, Fight Club, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., Kurbaan, Acid Factory and many more. Her acting skills matured with every film she did. Other Ventures of Dia Mirza Dia is engaged with a number of social activities. Mirza has been involved with Cancer Patients Aid Association, Spastics Society of India, and has worked extensively with government of Andhra Pradesh to spread HIV awareness, prevention of female foeticide, PETA, CRY and NDTV Greenathon which is an effort of finding tangible solutions against pollution. Diya is also actively involved in theatre, horse riding, pottery, painting, reading and writing. She has also contributed in the Hindustan Times and several other publications as a guest writer. She also works for the development of rural areas along with the board of the Coca Cola foundation. Diya has also adopted two cheetah cubs at the Prince of Wales zoological park, Lucknow.
