Madavoor Vasudevan Nair was actor-teacher of the Kaplingatu school of Kathakali. He was born to parents who were experts in music. His first guru in Kathakali was Madavoor Parameswaran Pillai, followed by Kurichi Kunjan Panicker. The preliminary lessons learnt within three years, he later became the finest disciple of Chengannur Raman Pillai. After his demise he was the chosen one to play the katti antagonists that his preceptor excelled in different roles such as Ravana, Duryodhana, Bana, Hiranyakasipu, Ghatotkacha. When Pillai was Principal of the Thiruvananthapuram palace troupe, he was one of its actors. From 1968 to 1978 he served as instructor of Kaplingatu Kathakali in the Kerala Kalamandalam. Now he is Principal of Kala Bharati Kathakali Centre at Pakalkuri in Kilimanur, Thiruvananthapuram district. He is also known for his vocals in Kathakali singing.
