Makandi was the capital of Southern Panchala. Panchala is the modern Uttarkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Panchala is situated in the north of the Ganges River. In the mythology it is stated that Panchala it was one of the Mahajanapadas.
In the Mahabharata there is a significance if state Panchala. Draupadi, wife of the five Pandava brothers was the princess of Panchala.
