Bhartiya Lok Kala Kendra in Udaipur is located near the Chetak Circle. It is one of the well-known museums in Udaipur. It has a remarkable collection of Rajasthani folk artifacts. Rajasthani ornaments, apparels, masks, puppets, musical instruments, dolls, paintings and deities are displayed in its museum. Local transportation, such as, buses, auto rickshaws, tongas (horse carriages) and taxis.
The Mewar region was always famous for its art and culture. The local handicrafts have always been an object of interest for the art lovers. In order to make the exquisite pieces of art reach pout to more people Bhartiya Lok Kala Kedra took the initiative to organize an institution. This organization would then promote the art works of the local artisans and craftsmen. There is a museum that is part of this cultural organization. Here the products are displayed for the scrutiny of the art lovers as well as tourists.
The first thing that the visitors will notice is the theatre equipment. In an adjacent hall there is a laudable collection of musical instruments. These instruments are primarily used by tribal folks. Besides these tribal ornaments have also been put as exhibits. A puppet theatre is also located within the museum. Puppet show is an inimitable way of entertainment in Rajasthan. Since the Mewar Rajputs have always held onto their traditions and culture this was an important means of entertainment even for them.
Here at the Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum puppet shows are held at regular intervals. On the opposite side of this theater auditorium an exhibition of terra-cotta devras, henna handprints and others from the village of Molela (Nathwada) are situated. The Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal has taken all the pains and gathered outstanding items of Rajasthan. These include miniature paintings, sculptures, leather items and several other handicrafts that make Udaipur as well as Rajasthan unique.
