Thonde monastery is one of the sacred sites for Buddhists in India. It is nestled along the foot of the hill in Thonde in Leh district in Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated about 7km from Karsha. The monastery was established by lama Mar-pa. Later lamas like Gyalsan Lugrub Pal-Zangpo and Shakya Zangpo helped in prospering the monastery.
Attractions of Thonde Monastery
This ancient monastery is home to various things of historical significance. It houses the image of Shakyamuni Buddha and other statues. The pre-historical murals and other arts of the monastery are breathtaking.
The other attraction of the monastery is the annual festival Gostor. The festival is organized on the 28th and 29th days of the 11th month of the Tibetan Calender. The successive incarnation of Ngra-Risku acts as the incumbent.

Thonde monastery is well connected via roadway. For local transport, taxis and jeeps are available from Padum and Zangla.
