History of Dalhousie
The town of Dalhousie was named after the British Governor-General, Lord Dalhousie, who had declared this place as an ideal summer retreat. Dalhousie came into existence in the year 1854 by the British Raj in the country. It was located around hills of Bakrota, Potreyn, Bhangora, Kathalagh and Terah. The Himalayan Mountain Ranges surround Dalhousie, which is situated on the western side of the Dhauladhar Mountains. It is located at an altitude of about 6000 to 9000 feet above mean sea level.
Summer is the perfect time to visit Dalhousie, particularly during the months from May till September. The bungalows and churches that are existent in Dalhousie portray the Victorian and Scottish style of architecture. The Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh can be accessed through Dalhousie.
Dalhousie boasts of rich Hindu traditions, which is clearly depicted in the form of their regional art and numerous local temples.
