![]() Plot of Lamhe The Indian movie 'Lamhe' is about moments in Viren's (Anil Kapoor) life. Lamhe deals with moments of love, ecstasy, sorrow and realization. Viren, who lives in London, comes to Rajasthan with his governess or Dai Jaa played by Waheeda Rehman. There he meets the beautiful Pallavi played by Srideviand he immediately falls in love with her. Being a shy person he is unable to confess his love for her. By the time Viren gathers courage to tell her about his love, he comes to know that Pallavi is in love with Sidharth. He realizes this when due to a property dispute and a court case Pallavi's father dies of a heart attack and Viren comes to console her. But instead of coming to Viren, Pallavi goes straight to Sidhharth. Viren is shattered but he fulfills Pallavi's father's dying wish and arranges Pallavi's wedding with a heavy heart. He leaves Pallavi with Sidhharth and retreats to London without letting Pallavi know of his true emotions. Meanwhile Pallavi and Siddharth live happily. Pallavi gives birth to a baby girl. But their happiness does not last long. One year after their marriage both of them died in an accident. Viren flies down to India and decides to take care of the child. The baby girl is named Pooja and is kept in the care of Dai Jaa i.e. Waheeda Rahman. A few years later Viren comes from London. That time he meets Pooja for the first time. He is shocked as Pooja looks exactly like her mother, Pallavi. Both the roles were played by Sridevi. Eventually Viren, Dai Jaa and Pooja come to London. Later it is revealed to all that Pooja is in love with Viren. However Viren was still in love with Pallavi. Prem, played by Anupam Kher, is Viren's friend who knows that Viren's heart still yearns for Pallavi. Viren is still trying to engage himself in other works but still he cannot forget Pallavi. In London a girl named Anita, who works with Viren, is deeply in love with him but Viren never looks at her. Anita knows about Viren's love for Pallavi. She constantly tries to win his attention. Anita sees Pooja for the first time and instantly gets the feel that she looks exactly like her mother. She becomes upset because of the thought that Viren will eventually start loving Pooja. ![]() At the end Lamhe shows a broken hearted Pooja narrating a folk tale in a village. All of a sudden she notices Viren in the audience. She becomes exited and very happy. Very soon it is revealed that none of them got married because both realize that they cannot live without each other. So they get married and lived happily ever after. It won the best actress (Sridevi), best comedian (Anupam Kher), best movie (Yash Chopra), best screenplay (Honey Irani) and best dialogues (Rahi Masoom Reza) awards. Some of the other nominations include best director, best actor and best actress in a supporting role. Sridevi won the International Academy's Best Actress Award and the Sunday Observer Best Actress Award for the film. Costume designers Neeta Lulla, Kachins and Leena Daruwon won the 39th National Award for Best costume design. |
