Aswapati asked Uddalaka, the son of Aruna that on whom does he meditate as the Self. Uddalaka replied that it is on earth that he meditates. The king said that the Self that he meditates upon is called Pratishtha (the support). It is for this reason that he is supported by offspring and cattle, eats food and sees what is pleasing. Whoever thus meditates on the Vaisvanara Self eats food, sees what is pleasing and has in his family the glory of Brahman. One who thus, meditates on the Vaisvanara Self eats food, sees what is pleasing and has in his family the glory of Brahman. The earth is the feet of that Soul.
