Chandogya Upanishad, one of the oldest Upanishad has been written during the Vedic Brahmana period. Chandogya Upanishad is associated with Sama Veda. Chandogya Upanishad is the part of Chandogya Brahaman that contains ten chapters. The 15th Khanda of Chapter Five of Chandogya Upanishad states about the trunk of the Vaisvanara Self. Aswapati asked Jana, the son of Sarkaraksha that on whom does he meditate as the Self. Jana replied that it is on akasa that he meditates. The king said that the Self that he meditates upon is the Vaisvanara Self called Bahula (full). It is for this reason that he is blessed with offspring and wealth, eat food and see what is pleasing. One who meditates on the Vaisvanara Self eats food, sees what is pleasing and has in his family the glory of Brahman. The sky is the trunk of that Soul.
