Early Life of Riya Sen
Riya Sen lived in Kolkata, before she shifted to Mumbai with her parents and Sister Raima Sen, who is also a Bollywood actress. Bharat Dev Varma, her father is an esteemed member of the royal family of Tripura. She paternal grandmother named Ila Devi was the princes of Cooch Behar, whose younger sister was Maharani Gayatri Devi was Maharani of Jaipur. Indira who was the only daughter of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of Baroda was her paternal great-grandmother. Adinath Sen, Riya's maternal great-grandfather, was a renowned businessman of Kolkata whose father Dinnath Sen - relative of former Union Law Minister Ashoke Kumar Sen- was the Diwan or a Minister of the Maharaja of Tripura. The two sen sisters are credited on-screen under their mother's maiden name, although their official papers carry the surname Dev Varma.
Her father, Bharat Dev Varma comes from a royal family of Tripura. Her sister Raima Sen is also a renowned film actress. She did her academics from Loreto House and Rani Birla Girl's College, Kolkata.
Film Career of Riya Sen
Riya Sen first came in the limelight at the age of 15 when she faced the camera for the Tamil film 'Taj Mahal' directed by 'Bharati Raja'. Then she appeared in several music videos and albums in Indipop Circuit. Riya became a popular model when she appeared in different music videos for songs by popular singers, which included Asha Bhonsle's (Jhumka Gira Re), Falguni Pathak's (Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi or Chudi jo khanki), Jagjit Singh's and Asha Bhonsle's (Jab Samne Tum, Kahin Kahin Se), Sonu Nigam (Jeena Hai Tere Liye), and Shaan (Sutta Maro). She did her first pop album - Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi - at the age of 16.
Sen's first offer in movies came along with the movie, "Love You Hamesha" directed by Kailash Surendranath. Some of her noted movies include, "Shaadi No. 1", "Silsiilay", "It Was Raining That Night", "Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha", "Plan, Qayamat: City Under Threat", "Jhankaar Beats", "Dil Vil Pyar Vyar", "Style", and "Love You Hamesha". Riya Sen first appeared as a child artiste in the film "Vishkanya", where she portrayed the role of young Pooja Bedi. The only film of hers, which turned out to be well received and refreshing, was "Jhankar Beats". Sen has also worked in non-Hindi movies like Taj Mahal and Good luck in Tamil, Abohoman in Bengali language.
Although her movies did not do too well, however her cameo roles and item numbers are well acclaimed. She has item numbers in Plan, Arasatchi (Tamil movie), James and Hey Baby. The famous model and sweet looking actress is still to make mark in the film industry.
Personal Life of Riya Sen
Riya Sen is the younger sister of Raima Sen and daughter of Moonmoon Sen and Bharat Dev Varma. She is also the granddaughter of Suchitra Sen.
