Chandogya Upanishad one of the oldest Upanishad has been ranked ninth in the Muktika canon of hundred and eight Upanishadas. It is linked with the Sama Veda. The Upanishad has been written during the Vedic Brahmana period. The 13th Khanda of second chapter of Chandogya Upanishad states about the meditation on the Vamadevya Saman. Here the summoning of a woman is the syllable Him, the Prastava is gratifying her, the Udgitha is lying with her, the Pratihara is spending time with her and the Nidhana is performing sexual act with her. This is the Vamadevya Saman as interwoven in sexual intercourse. One who is aware of this and realises the Vamadevya Saman as interwoven in sexual intercourse gets rid from sufferings of separation and is able to procreate from every intercourse. He lives his life fully and happily, obtains respect from his children as well as owns cattle. Name and fame are bestowed on him everywhere.
