Chandogya Upanishad is one of the oldest Upanishad written on the Vedic Brahmana period about ninth to eighth century BC. Chandogya Upanishad is associated with Sama Veda. It is ranked ninth in the Muktika canon of hundred and eight Upanishadas. The 13th Khanda of Chapter Four of Chandogya Upanishad states about the instruction by the Ahavaniya Fire. It taught Upakosala that the Prana, the akaha, heaven and lightning are his forms. He is the person that is seen in the lightening. One who is aware of this, realizes this and meditates on the Agni frees himself from all sinful actions and attains the World of the Ahavaniya Fire. He reaches his complete age and lives brightly. His descendants also lead a long life and his race does not perish. All support him in this world and in the other who, knowing this, meditates on the fire.
