Snigdha Mohanty, Indian DancerSnigdha Mohanty has been regarded as one of the finest quality dancers of the traditional art form Odissi dance. She is the proud disciple of legendary Guru Padmabhusan Kelu Charan Mahapatra. Snigdha Mohanty has always been acknowledging her guru maa`s (Laxmipriya Mahapatra, wife of Guru Kelu Charan Mahapatra) effort behind her exploration to the world of Odissi dance. Laxmipriya Mahapatra has also contributed a lot to illuminate Snigdha`s way into this world. The most distinguishing character of her recitals are her `subtle abhinaya, musical knowledge, and aesthetic sense`.

Snigdha Mohanty was born and spent her days in the Indian state of Orissa that has been regarded as the land of Odissi dance. She was born into a family where she got an environment enriched with rich heritage of culture and spirituality of India. The inspiration behind her according to her is her father Late Sri Tapas Kumar Maity and mother Smt Dolly Maity. They have always been inspiring her to keep this traditional art form alive. Since her childhood she was fond of dancing. She started receiving formal training in dance from the tender age of five. From her school days she came under the umbrella of legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. At that time this traditional art form Odissi dance was experiencing a kind of revival both in the societal and contemporary stage.

Snigdha during her first 10 years of dance training gave her academics utmost priority. Besides dancing she has obtained her Masters Degree in Psychology from Utkal University. Then after she has also pursued for acquiring Masters Degree in Personal Management from IIMS, Kolkata. At that time her main aim was to excel in the professional career. But Singdha Mohanty has always attempted to impart the Odissi dancing techniques, skills and knowledge to the aspiring dancers. Her main aim behind this attempt was to ensure the spreading and preserving the `rich cultural heritage of Odissi in India as well as Overseas`. As she firmly believes that this traditional old art form can be preserved through those aspiring Odissi dancers, if the skills and knowledge were imparted in its correct manner.

Snigdha Mohanty has exhibited her performances throughout the country. She has performed in all most all the highly honored festivals including Konark Festival, Puri Beach Festival, Kelu Charan Utsav, Kumar Utsav, and various music conferences at Amaravati, Nagpur, Kolkata, and all around Orissa. She has always fetched acclamation from her audience for her strong command over the `nritya`, the stupendous pure attractive aspect of Odissi. Snigdha use to combine attracting postures with her awful rhythmic footwork and it eventually formed `an enchanting display of sculpturesque movements`. She has also performed at an international event organized by Rotary International at Chung Shan building, Yang Ming Shan, Taipei.

Since early 2005 to at this present period she is based in Taiwan with her husband. Her husband is a senior official in Taiwan`s Mobile Telecommunication industry. She is so dedicated Odissi dancer that on her first visit to Taiwan, she was looking for an opportunity to spread this rich heritage in Taiwan. Her main was to spread the dancing skills, the note of cultural harmony and performing arts to the people of Taiwan. She was also targeting the countable Indian population out there. Apart from being a professional dancer, Snigdha has also contributed a lot of her income from her recitals and performances to the cause of charity and betterment for poor and disadvantaged children. She is also conducting workshops in Odissi dance. Today Snigdha Mohanty has carved a niche for the Indian traditional art form Odissi in the domain of rich and affluent culture of Taiwan.
