12th Khanda of Chapter Four

twelfth khanda of Chapter Four of Chandogya Upanishad states about the instruction by the Southern Fire to Satyakama.

Chandogya Upanishad is one of the oldest Upanishad written on the Vedic Brahmana period about ninth to eighth century BC. Chandogya Upanishad is associated with Sama Veda. It is ranked ninth in the Muktika canon of hundred and eight Upanishadas. The twelfth khanda of Chapter Four of Chandogya Upanishad states about the instruction by the Southern Fire. The Anvaharya (Southern) Fire taught Upakosala that the water, the quarters, the stars and the moon are his forms. He is the person that is seen in the moon. One who is aware of this, realises this and meditates on the fire frees himself from all sinful actions and attains the World of the Anvaharya Fire. He reaches his complete age and lives brightly. His descendants also lead a long life and his race does not perish. All support him in this world and in the other who, knowing this, meditates on the fire.
