Chandogya Upanishad, one of the oldest Upanishad has been written during the Vedic Brahmana period. Chandogya Upanishad is associated with Sama Veda. It is ranked ninth in the Muktika canon of hundred and eight Upanishadas. Chandogya Upanishad is the part of Chandogya Brahaman that contains ten chapters. The 10th Khanda of Chapter Six of Chandogya Upanishad states about the absence of particularized consciousness in deep sleep. Svetaketu`s father explained him that the eastern rivers flow towards the east and the western rivers flow towards the west but they all arise from the sea flow back into the sea. All these rivers after mingling in the sea cannot distinguish themselves as individuals. In the same way all the living beings after mingling with the Supreme Brahman cannot distinguish themselves as individuals. They become of the form they had before, whether that be of a tiger, a lion, a wolf, a bear, a worm, an insect, a gnat, or a mosquito. That particle which is the Soul of all is the ultimate Truth; it is the Universal Soul.
