Previously the cultural capital of Jaipur, Gangapur city is situated in the Sawai Madhopur district of the western state of India, Rajasthan. It is connected by road and rail to Bhilwara, the district headquarters of the Bhilwara district. Gangapur is located at a distance of 100 km. from Sanganer Airport and is also very close to Jaipur.
According to the 2001 India census report, Gangapur City had a population of 96,794. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47% of the population. In Gangapur city, 17% of the population is less than six years of age. Gangapur city has an average literacy rate of 61%, which is higher than the national average literacy rate of 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 72% and the female literacy rate is 48%.
Dhundeshwar, in the neighbourhood is an ideal tourist destination because of its exquisite range of mountains and gurgling springs. Mahavirji and Kala mata Mandir is also situated in the vicinity. Gangapur city is also famous for the Kalyanji Mela, which lasts for ten days.
