Mizoram, the state in the north eastern part of India is a wonderful place due to its dramatic landscape and pleasant climate. Tucked away in the Northeast India, Mizoram abounds in natural beauty and serenity. Mizoram is situated at the foothills of the Himalayas and has the power to soothe frayed nerves. The flora and fauna here is rich and the lush green forests will completely woo the travellers. The churches, beautiful waterfalls, wild life, stunning lakes and the villages make Mizoram one of the most coveted destinations in India. Churches are the main religious centers in Mizoram because the major part of the population in Mizoram is Christians. It is the largest church of the state and thus attracts a lot of devotee. The Baptist church of Mizoram is the second largest church and was founded in 1897. Within the Aizwal district there is Pukzing Cave, Kungawrhi Puk and Lamsial Puk. Saiha is a haven for anglers. It is located on the banks of Chhimtuipui, Mizoram’s biggest river.

Wild life is an important part of Mizoram tourism. This state in India is a paradise for the nature lovers. There are several wild life sanctuaries in Mizoram and the Ngengpui wild life sanctuary is one of them. This sanctuary is a home to wild animals like tiger, leopard, barking deer, sambar, wild boar and leaf monkeys. The Phawngpui National park in the south eastern part of Mizoram excels in a variety of wild life, along with rare species of birds and vegetation. This sanctuary is a must visit site for the nature lovers. Waterfalls in Mizoram are a prime attraction for the nature tourists. The Vantawng Falls are the largest and most magnificent falls in Mizoram. This waterfall gushes from a height of 750 feet and is surrounded by a luxuriant green tropical forest filled with bamboo groves. The Palak Lake in Mizoram is a much visited destination. There are plenty of fishes and crabs in the lake and variety of aquatic birds and wild animals are found in the forest area surrounding the lake. The Tamdil Lake near Aizawl is a beautiful natural lake amidst the green forest. The lake offers an ideal picnic spot and boating facilities for the tourists.

Villages are the best gateways for exploring the scenic beauty of this northeast Indian state of Mizoram. A peep to the villages in Mizoram will provide the tourist with an idea of the culture and heritage of the people of this state. The travellers can head to the Falklawn Mizo Village. It has a state museum on Mcdonald hill. The costumes, artifacts and historical relics here throw ample light on the Mizo culture. Besides this the resort village of Saituai is just 10 km away from Tamdil. Village tourism in Mizoram is a different experience altogether.

How to Reach Mizoram: Mizoram is a small state that is tucked away amidst the steep hills. To access to the state of Mizoram, flights, railway tracks and roadways are easily available.

Airports at Imphal Air: The main airport of Mizoram is in the capital city of Aizawl. Several airlines operate regular flights to and from Aizawl.

Rail: There is no railway station in the boundary of Mizoram. The nearest railway station is at Silchar in Assam, which is six to eight hours drive from Aizawl. Silchar is serviced by important trains and is linked to the rest of India with convenient Railway network.

Road: The road network system of Mizoram is quite convenient. NH - 54 connects Aizawl with the rest of the country via Silchar. Other important north eastern cities like Guwahati and Shillong are also well linked with Aizawl.

Traditional textiles, such as, puan with intricate weaving in vibrant colours are a popular buy here. These are mainly made by the Mizo women. Mizo men are skilled craftsmen too. They create cane and bamboo items which are a popular buy among the tourists. The travellers can also try out the local cuisines, such as, momo. There are ample accommodation units in Mizoram for the travellers. Resorts are quite popular in this part of India. Apart from these there are budget hotels too. The local people are warm and friendly. The tourists are treated with lot of respect. Local transportations are also easily available for sightseeing.
