Travel Information on Ajmer, RajasthanThe city of Ajmer was founded by Raja Ajai Pal Chauhan in the 7th century A.D. It offers a dash of greenery amidst the otherwise barren landscape of Rajasthan. With an interesting past it has also evolved as a major tourist destination for the travelers. The history of Ajmer is important as it witnessed the demise of the last Hindu ruler of Delhi, Prithviraj Chauhan. The Battle of Tarain was an important event in the history of India that changed the entire reign scenario. This battle was fought between Prithviraj Chauhan and Mohammed Ghori.

There are several places of interest in Ajmer. The foremost of these is the Dargah of Khwaja Sahib. Dedicated to Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti, it is one of the most visited local attractions in Ajmer. A host of temples are waiting to be explored by the travelers. The holy shrines in Ajmer comprise of Nasiyan Temple, Brahma Temple, Rangji Temple, Savitri Temple and Saraswati Temple. Pushkar is the nearest excursion from Ajmer. It is located at a distance of 11 kilometers from Ajmer.

Local transportations are easily available to tour the city. Most of the accommodation units in Ajmer arrange sightseeing tours. Rented cars and other vehicles are available to visit the places of interest in Ajmer. This district has always been an important center for education and culture. Mayo College is a prestigious educational institute that is quite famous. Apart from the temples and mosques there are several lakes that to the beauty of the city like there are Ana Sagar, Pushkar Lake and Foy Sagar. There is a fort that stands in the middle of the city-- Taragarh Fort. Though most of the fort is in ruins now the beauty and charm has not yet faded. Adhai Din-Ka-Jhonpra is another local attraction.

Kishangarh, Tilonia and Pushkar are the places that lie around Ajmer. Amongst the many fairs the one that stands out is the Urs Fair. The nearest airport of Ajmer is at Jaipur, which is 135kms away. The city is also well connected by railways and roads. To put it is nutshell a trip to Ajmer will prove to be quite refreshing for the tourists.
