Indian movie actress Tabu is an award winning actress who acted in various languages other than Hindi.

Tabu , Movie actress Indian movie actress Tabu was born on 4th November 1970 in Hydrabad, Andhra Pradesh with birth name Tabassum Hashmi Khan. Her mother was a school teacher. Tabu studied at St. Xavier`s college from 1983-1985. She is an excellent actress who has also performed in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and English films. This Bollywood actress is considered to be one of the best actresses working in the Indian film industry, she has won the desired National Film Award for Best Actress twice. She is best known for her critically acclaimed acting in many films. Her films are not famous for box office success but often she gets good remarks for her acting capability. She is considered one of the finest and most versatile actresses in the country as well. Tabu used to live in Hyderabad, far from Mumbai`s madding crowd. Her only link with Mumbai`s film world was her aunt, Shabana Azmi. She is the younger sister of Farha who was the actress of earlier Bollywood. But she could not sustain stardom. Farha managed her career rather badly and settled down to marital bliss with Dara Singh`s son. Tabu entered after Farha left films. Though the actress began her career with the film `Hum Naujawan` at the age of fifteen where she played the role of daughter of the legendary actor Dev Anand. But as a proper actress Tabu`s career opened with a grand production. Boney Kapoor took her in his film, directed by Shekhar Kapur and she acted opposite Sanjay Kapoor. The name of the film was `Prem`. It was a complete love story with stereotype thinking of re-incarnation. The film was flopped but all noticed the actress. There were no emotional entanglements that could harm her career. She just went on working hard. Tabu actually reached the audience in `Vijaypath`. In that film she has a famous song `Ruk ruk ruk` with which she became the household name. She was also lucky to catch Gulzar`s eye and worked in `Maachis` where she managed to achieve National award.

Saajan Chale Sasural movie In the year 1996, Tabu had eight releases. Out of them two films `Saajan Chale Sasural` and `Jeet` were declared to be hits. Her other significant film, `Maachis` was critically acclaimed. Her role as a Punjabi woman caught in the rise of Sikh insurgency has really drawn accolades from different corners of the country. She won her first National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in this film as well. In 1997 her first release was `Border`. The movie was about the real life events surrounding the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. She played the role of Sunny Deol`s wife. Her role was small but the film went on to be the biggest hit of 1997. That year, she also starred in the critically acclaimed film `Virasat`. This was a remake of a Tamil movie `Thevar Magan`. The film was an average success at the box office but for her brilliant performance Tabu won the Filmfare Critics Award. In 1999 she starred in two successful multi-starrer films `Biwi No.1` and `Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United`. Both were the first and second biggest hits of that year respectively. In 2000, the actress starred in `Hera Pheri` and `Astitva`. The former was a box office success whilst the latter was critically acclaimed. This film was regarding some sensitive issues of the society and Tabu was awesome in the movie.

In the year 2001 Tabu worked in `Chandni Bar` directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. Her portrayal of a bar dancer met with unanimous praise, and she won her second National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance. She did tremendously good in this film and achieved many critical acclamation. It was completely her film. Her performance deserves the highest marks and of course, all the awards. Her work was flawless and the impact of her character on the minds of the viewer was extremely touchy. After this film it can be thought of that Tabu can take the total responsibility to make a film hit. She has also acted in a number of Telugu movies. Out of them many are very successful, such as `Coolie No. 1` and `Ninne Pelladatha`. In 2003, Tabu starred in an adaptation of William Shakespeare`s `Macbeth`. The actress played Nimmi based on the character Lady Macbeth. The film titled `Maqbool` was directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and premiered at the 2003 Toronto International Film Festival. `Maqbool` was a box office failure but was met with huge acclaim. She also had a supporting role in `Fanaa` in the Chandni Bar movieyear 2006, with Aamir Khan and Kajol. The film went on to become the fourth biggest hit of that year. She performed the role of a crime officer with full of dignity. In 2007, Tabu starred in her first Hollywood film, `Namesake`, directed by Mira Nair. The film was a huge hit overseas.She also starred in `Cheeni Kum` in which she played a 34 year-old woman who falls in love with a 64 year-old played by Amitabh Bachchan. She left a huge mark and working shoulder to shoulder with the mega star. Though the film did not do well in India, it was a huge hit overseas especially in UK and USA.

The indian movie actress Tabu is an award winning actrss who has won award many a times in her career. In the year 1995 she won best female debut for the film `Vijaypath`. In 1998 she was awarded with best actress critics choice for the film `Virasat`. Again in the year 2000 she was awarded best actress for `Hu Tu Tu`. In 2001 she won best actress critics choice award for the film `Astitva`. The Bollywood actress Tabu also got National award for two times like first time for `Maachis` in the year 1997 and in the second time for `Chandni Bar` in 2002.
