In 1999, she played the leading role in the movie "Sangharsh" opposite Akshay Kumar. Inspired from the Hollywood movie, "The Silence of the Lambs" it became a succcess at the box-office. The movie was directed by Tanuja Chandra and written by Mahesh Bhatt. Preity portrayed the character of a CBI officer who falls in love with Akshay Kumar.
