Preiti Zinta was born in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. She belongs from a Hindu Rajput family of Rohru in Shimla district. The accident also involved her mother, Nilprabha, who was severely injured and was bedridden for almost two years. Zinta Preity has two brothers, Deepankar and Manish. Deepankar is an officer in Indian Army while Manish is settled in Los Angeles.
Following the success of "Dil Se" and "Soldier", she also got offers from south and acted in two Telegu movies Premante Idera in the year 1998 opposite Venkatesh and Raja Kumarudu in the year 1999 opposite Mahesh Babu. In 1999, she played the leading role in the movie "Sangharsh" opposite Akshay Kumar. Inspired from the Hollywood movie, "The Silence of the Lambs" it became a succcess at the box-office. The movie was directed by Tanuja Chandra and written by Mahesh Bhatt. Preity portrayed the character of a CBI officer who falls in love with Akshay Kumar.
