
Padmasree Smt. Kanika Banerjee recalls her first meeting with Banani. "Banani was in her teens when I first heard her and instantly was impressed by her dedication and natural gift for renditioning of gurudev Rabindranath`s songs". Rabindrasangeet for Banani Ghosh is a priesthood. When she was at her tender age of six years, started receiving training in Rabindrasangeet. Banani Ghosh has underwent a rigorous training in Rabindrasangeet, Classical, traditional songs and Bhajans under eminent scholars in Calcutta and Santiniketan, India.
Banani Ghosh was born to a culturally sound family who originally belongs to Baligaun in Mymensingh district of unified India to father, Late Prafulla Krishna Ghose. Her father shares a close intimacy with Rabindranath Tagore. He also possesses a talent of composing poems, writings of stories, biographies of Indian illuminaries/illuminates and published "Chom-Chom" - an elite monthly magazine for children from East Bengal.
Bonani Ghosh after obtaining graduation from Rabindra Bharati University - Calcutta, India also obtained graduation from Geetabitan - Calcutta, India. Then after she under the legendary guidance of Padmashri Smt. Kanika Banerjee - the doyenne of Rabindrasangeet, whom she still consider as her mentor even to this day, underwent three years rigorous training at Santiniketan. Then after Bonani Ghosh received training from Romesh Bandopadhyay (Classical), Sukhendu Goswami & Nani Gopal Chattopadhyya - Classical, Manju Gupta - Atulprosad, Dilip Roy of Pondicherry - Atulprosad, D.L. Roy & Bhajan, Padma-bibhusan Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Padmasri Gyan Ghosh and Sri. Kshiti Mohan Sen Shastri - Bhajan, Saileja Ranjan Mazumder, Romesh Bandopadhyay, Anadi Kumar Dastidar, Kanika Banerjee & Maya Sen - Rabindrasangeet.
Bananni Ghosh apart from being an accomplished singer also left impression in other fields too. To her credit, in the year 1989, she has organized a two-day festivity in New Jersey, `Rabindra Mela`. The main aim behind this festivity was `to disseminate the thoughts and literary works of Rabindranath Tagore to the North American audience and to the first generation Bengalees growing up in the United States`. For the Mela Committee she was nominated for the post of President. At the festivity dramas, operas, songs, workshops, exhibitions, seminars were presented in front of 3000 audiences. Artists from Bangladesh, Canada, India, England and U.S.A. came to participate there. Bonani Ghosh has been honored with the citation by the Mayor of Scotch Plains, New Jersey, Joan Papen in recognition of her commitment and her persistent community service activities through Antara and Rabindra Mela. Only for the Rabindra Mela festivity, a journal entitled "Rabibarnali" with articles from towering scholars was published. The 1989 Rabindra Mela received well acclamation and thus led to the repetition of the Mela in the year 1993. at that time the President of the Rabindra Mela committee, Mrs. Banani Ghosh with the guest of honor, the Ambassador of India, Sri. Siddhartha Shankar Ray inaugurated the festivity.

Beside all these, Bonani Ghosh is a name who always raises her hand whenever the matter relates to Community services. In the year 1963, on invitation of the Late Mr. M.C. Chagla, the Indian High Commissioner of London, Banani Ghosh helped to raise funds for the Indo-China war of October 1962, for the National Defence Fund set-up by the then Prime Minister Late Pandit Jawaharalal Nehru. For this cause also, she has staged Tagore`s dance drama "Shapmochan" at that time and she received acclamation for her outstanding success throughout India and London. To raise funds for a Community Center in Rochester, NY Banani had heading for the stage performance of Tagore`s dance drama "Bhannusingher Padavali" in the year 1983 along with the artists from the Indian and the Bengali community. At the request of the Bengali Community of Toronto, Canada in the year 1987, presented a musical evening to help raise fund to build the Toronto Kali-bari with the help of Antara - Toronto chapter. To raise funds for the flood victims of Bangladesh Banani executed at the highly esteemed NIH auditorium in Washington DC in the year 1991. She performed this programme on the invitation of the Bangladesh Society of Washington DC.
Bonani Ghosh has also lent her voice in the Bengali movie Pratisruti under the music direction of Late Hemanta Mukherjee. In the year 1961, under the music direction of Late Santosh Sengupta executed Rabindrasangeet in Tagore documentaries. Since the year 957, Banani Ghosh has been associated with the highly esteemed Gramophone Company of India Ltd. (EMI/HMV/RCS Group) and from the year 1982, she was associated with Polydor Rhyme Records. At the All India Radio since the year 1954, she has been executing Rabindrasangeet, Atulprosadi and Bhajans. During her stay at Switzerland, Banani Ghosh used to perform on a regular basis from the BBC in London from the year 1961 to 1964 for their local and Eastern services. Since its inauguration in the year 1975, she has been performing at the Doordarshan Kendra (Indian Television).

Throughout North America also Banani Ghosh executed Rabindrasangeet on Radio and Television shows. On the death anniversary of Tagore Banani Ghosh has organized and directed a special documentary named "Remembrance of Tagore" in the ITV (Indian Television), the pioneer station in New York City, which is still airing due to popular demand. As a recognition to her talent she has been conferred many accolades. The Indian Community of Rochester, New York conferred her the Plaque of Honor in the year 1983. For her persistent commitment to upgrade the music of Rabindranath Tagore, the Bengali Association of Singapore conferred her the felicitation in the year 1985. The Banga Sammelan Committee in the year 1985 awarded her for her allegiance and unappeasable effort to promote the Bengali culture in USA and Canada. Rabindranath Tagore Lecture Foundation of Toronto, Canada for being the musical ambassador to promote the genius of Tagore in the year 1986 conferred honor at the auspicious occasion of the 125th Tagore anniversary.
The Bay Area Prabashi of San Francisco, CA in the year 1988, awarded Banani Ghosh Plaque of Honor for her contribution in founding the west coast chapter of Antara in San Francisco. Recognizing her effort to popularize Bengali music, she was conferred the Plaque of Honor from Los Angeles Bengali Community in the year 1990. DFW Bengali Association of Dallas, Texas in the year 1991, conferred Bonani Ghosh Plaque of Honor for promoting Tagore`s music. For unionizing and performing in a benefit concert in the year 1991, Samhati - a Bangladeshi Women`s organization in Washington DC conferred her the award a Plaque of Honor to Banani. It was given to her to help raise fund for the flood victims of Bangladesh. For executing in a benefit concert to help raise fund for the flood victims of Bangladesh in the year 1991, the Bangladesh Community of New Jersey awarded Banani with an honorary Plaque. In the year 1992, Banani at her entirely solo performance staged in Dacca honored by Chayanat - the esteemed musical institution of Dacca, Bangladesh. In the year 1992, the Tagore Center of London during the Tagore anniversary festival of London honored Banani for being the musical ambassador. Banani was awarded by the Midlands Arts Center of Birmingham, UK in the year 1992, during their Tagore anniversary festivity. In the year 1993, Banani was nominated President, once again, for the bespeak demonstration of Rabindra Mela festivity in New Jersey.
Since the year 1961, Banani has attempted to re-introduce Tagore to the people at large through Rabindrasangeet and for that she has been journeying on invitations. To take part in the Rabindra-Jayanti festivities she conscientiously makes annual visits to India. During her visits, for the All India Radio, Doordarshan Kendra and for HMV - The Gramophone Company of India Ltd she performed. For her unforgiving efforts to upgrade and circularize Tagore`s culture and traditional Bengali songs Banani has been conferred numerous honors and awards. In order to fulfill her dream, Bonani Ghosh founded Antara - a Tagore music institution across the United States and Canada.
Antara has also released a two-hour audio cassette namely "Ekti Sangeet Sandhya", which describes her live performance in San Francisco. In co-operation with the Ali Akbar College of Music, University of California this show was coordinated at Berkeley and Bay area Prabasi. She executed performance was on songs from Rabindranath Tagore, Rajanikanto Sen, Atulprosad Sen, Dwijendralal Roy and Dilip Roy.
