Yatras are considered as the holy journey in India. While India is the land of religious diversity, yatras is concentrated among the Hindus, Jains and Buddhists. It generally means journeys to the holy places and temples such as confluences of sacred rivers like Ganga River, Narmada River, Tapti River, Yumana River and Sarawati River and the places associated with Hindu epics such as the Mahabharata and Ramayana, and other sacred pilgrimage sites.
Kashi Yatra
Kashi Yatra is customary for every Hindu on barefoot. The pilgrims also visit Gaya to do Gaya Shraddha to their ancestors.
Amarnath Yatra
Amarnath yatra is associated with Amarnath Temple in Jammu and Kashmir, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva or Mahadeva.
Pandharpur Yatra
Pandharpur Yatra is hosted by the private agencies and Government of Maharashtra to celebrate the annual offerings and the fair at Vithoba Temple of Pandharpur held every year during the months of June and July. These pilgrims are referred to as Varkaris.
Ratha Yatra
Ratha Yatra is one of the national level holy journeys in Odisha- Eastern India. It is the "Festival of Chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balaram and Shubhadra". This yatra is held every year at Puri in Puri District of Odisha.
Deoghar Yatra
Deoghar Yatra is closely associated with the pilgrimage journey to worship Lord Shiva. Numerous travel agencies host this journey every year. It is also known as Baidyanath Dham or Baba Dham situated on the eastern side of Jharkhand. It is an important Hindu pilgrimage center having Baidyanath Temple as one of the twelve Lord Shiva Jyothirlingams in India.
Char Dham Yatra
Chardham Yatra belongs to four pilgrimage places in India. They are the journey to Badrinath Temple, Dwarka in Gujarat, Puri in Odisha and Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. Char Dhams are often considered the most revered sites for Hindus that have to be visited in one"s lifetime.
84 Kosi Yatra
84-Kosi Yatra is a tradition in Hindu religion that has been there for thousands of years with the belief that it gives deliverance to the performer from the cycle of 84 lakhs yonis. According to Hindu mythology, the king of Ayodhya performed the "yagna" in the "Treta Yuga" at a place in Makhurha in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh which included circumnavigating the six districts in the region. Some of the Hindu religious leaders believe that the right place to start the “Parikrama†should be Basti instead of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.
