The kings of Mysore from the medieval times were the great patrons of wrestling.
Through out the long and elegant rule of Woodeyar Dynasty, a class of wrestlers called "Jetties" received in particular encouragement for the royal wrestling competition in Mysore Palace. Especially for them the Wrestling Courtyard was constructed by the rulers of that time. Later the British also encouraged the wrestling game and the other European games as well.
A favourite rather cruel, for a wrestling game called "Vajramusti" was often exhibited by Jetties, especially during the Dasara festival in Karnataka. Among the other European and Indigenous sports held during the Dasara festival in Mysore were Horse races, Foot Ball tournament, Polo tournament and the chase, the last- named consisted of pig-sticking, tiger- shooting, game-shooting etc. Polo Tournament earned the popularity from the rule of British Government in India as it was started in the year 1902.
The royal furniture of the kings earned the popularity from the British times. The beautiful and the splendorous temple craftsmen also Gudigars were employed by Kings of Mysore dynasties for generations. All furniture housed in the formal and personal areas of the Mysore Palace where visiting dignitaries were entertained. The silver large chairs resemble thrones of the court men of the regal dynasties. The royal coat of arms moulded on back and silver lions from the armrests. The lion being symbol of power and royalty is the insignia of the Woodeyar dynasty of Karnataka.
