William Mackworth Young

William Mackworth Young, formally addressed as Sir William Mackworth Young KCSI, served as the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, which was annexed by British East India Company in 1849 after Second Anglo Sikh War through Treaty of Lahore, from the year 1897 to 1902. He was also one of the prominent members of the British Indian Civil Service. William Young was born in the year 1840 to father Captain Sir George Young. He was educated at the Eton College and the King`s College in Cambridge. He successfully completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in the year 1863 and Master of Arts in the year 1866.

In 1863, William Mackworth Young joined the British Indian Civil Service in Bengal, British dominated India. Eventually he was promoted to the rank of Financial Commissioner of British Punjab. He served in the position from the year 1889 to 1895. Later Sir William Mackworth Young KCSI was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of British Punjab on 6 Mar 1897. He served in office till 6 Mar 1902. He also acted as a member of the Imperial Legislative Council in the year 1893. William Mackworth Young was knighted with the Knight Commander of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India. He died in the year 1924.
