Wildlife Sanctuary in Sirmaur District has been named as the Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary that is situated in Himachal Pradesh. The nearest town that lies from the sanctuary Dadahu is more or less of a distance about 2 kms from Renuka. Connected by the roads everywhere, the entire area of the sanctuary measures an area of 402.80 hectare. The entire Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary is comprised of only Renuka Reserve Forest and has been declared as "Abhayaranya". In totality there lies an area of 300 hectare that lies outside the ambit of this sanctuary but is proximate with its boundary.
The area has hogged the limelight owing to its religious and cultural values that is a sacred conifer, abode of temples of mother and son duo of Renukaji and Lord Parshuram. Indian mythology crammed with the mythical overdose of Renukaji states that Renukaji was an incarnation of Goddess Durga and most obviously the wife of Rishi Yamdagini. Parshuram is alleged to be the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and was the youngest of the five sons of the couple. Once it had been such that, to abide by the order of his father, Parshuram had to indulge in the brutal act of killing i.e. to serve, the head of his mother. As and when he killed his mother he begged his father to perjure life in his mother, for which the Rishi agreed whole heartedly. Renukaji as she escaped the deadly clutches of the emperor who wanted to marry her owing to her everlasting and ephemeral beauty unable to bear the grief Renukaji jumped into small pond known by the name of the Ramsarover at that time, and disappeared into it. Ever since, the lake is worshiped as Renukaji Lake.
Renuka forest falls under dry mixed deciduous forest and dry Sal forest. The area forms northern limit of natural Sal forest which itself are limited to Badaun Dhar and the forest of the area mixed crop of Anogeissus, Lucinea, Terminalia, Khair, Shisham, Carrie, Cordia and a variety of climbers in moist depressions. The fauna of the area are Leopard, Samber, Spotted Deer, Barking deer Jackal, Hare, Jungle cat, Plam Civet, Porcupine, Blue jay, Black Partridge, Drongos, Hill Crow, Scarlet Minivet, Bulbul, Common Cooots, Green Pigeons.
