Vegakkollai is located in Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu. It is a small town panchayat situated at a distance of 14.9 km from its Taluk Main Town Panruti. It is at a distance of 24.1 km from the main city of Cuddalore and 173 km away from Chennai. The majority of the population residing in Vegakkollai are of Vanniar Kula Padayachi caste. It is almost 6 kms away from Neyveli. Panchayat Union Middle School and Panchayat Union Elementary School are some of the schools here.

The ancient Murugan Kovil, Ranganathar temple, Kalapar Eswaran Kovil, Iyyanar Kovil and Purathaman Aalayam are also located here. Ranganathar temple of Vengadampettai houses the biggest statue of Ranganathar in sleeping posture. The temple is almost 1000 years old.

Vegakkollai is well connected by different modes of transport. Bus service here is provided by Tamil Nadu Villupuram Transport Corporation. The town is linked through route 21 that passes between Panruti and Kurinjipadi. Route 10 links Cuddalore to Vegakkollai.
