Mayabunder

Mayabunder is the tourist hotspot accessible by road and sea from Port Blair. This place of tourist attraction is located in the northern part of Middle Andaman Islands and covered at a distance of 242 kilometres by road and 130 kilometres by sea.

Major islands found in Mayabunder are Stewart Island, Curlew Island, Avis Island and Interview Island, Karmatang beach and Rampur beach.

Karmatang Beach
Karmatang Beach is a turtle nesting ground located just 13 km from Mayabunder Jetty. One can reach to Kalighat in Diglipur through the creek by boat from this beach. December to February is best to travel here to view nesting of turtles.

Avis Island
Avis Island is located just 2 km east from Mayabunder main market. It takes about 30 minutes boat journey from Mayabunder Jetty to reach here. One will discover a little beautiful sea beach in Avis Island.

Rampur Beach
Rampur is a small beach that holds less shades and a nearby mangrove forest. One can also travel to Rampur Village to know the cultures rural people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The cultural expression of the tribal people is the major attraction for the tourists.

Barren Island
Barren Islands is the only confirmed active volcano in South Asia located 50 kilometres from Mayabunder. The island, along with the rest of the Andamans, is part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and lies some 135 km northeast of the territory`s capital, Port Blair. The first recorded eruptions of the volcano on Barren Islands date back to 1787. Since then, the volcano has erupted more than six times and the most recent eruption was on 2 May 2006.

Diglipur
Diglipur is known formerly as the Port Cornwallis. This is one of the prime tourist attractions, situated at about 54 km to the north of Mayabunder. The orange produced here is also famous in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Rapinagar Beach is 36 kilometres away beyond Kalighat from Diglipur in a calm and quiet environment, which is the cynosure to the tourists of all sections.
