Tourism in Kozhikode districtKozhikode has a lot to offer the visitors, the Beaches-Kappad, Kozhikode, Beypore, Bird sanctuary, Planetarium, Science Lab etc make the visit worthwhile for a tourist.
S.M Street:
This is actually Sweat Meat Street, popularly known as SM Street. This is popular for it`s cross roads. It is the busiest shopping spot of Kozhikode. The name of the street is given so because of the presence of numerous sweet meat stalls. There are some old bakery shops, which are best known for the famous Kozhikodan Halwa and Banana Chips.

Kallai:
Kallai was known as the world`s best timber trading center. Even now, it is the place for timber trade in Malabar region.

Kappad:
On 27th May 1498, Vasco-De Gama landed here with three vessels and 170 men. On traveling 16 Km north of Kozhikode by kannur road, a small road near Tiruvangoor health centre goes to this beach of historical importance. Thus the route is very easy and convenient. A monument is here to commemorate the historical landing. An ancient temple on a hillock facing the deep sea is a supplementary attraction.

Beypore town:
Beypore town is about 9.65 Km from Kozhikode district. This is situated at the mouth of the Beypore River. The Place was formerly known as Vaypura and Vadaparappanad. In later days Tippu Sultan named the town `Sultan Pattanam`. It is one of the important ports of Kerala and naturally an important trading center. It is famous for it`s boat building yard where enormous country crafts known as `Urus` are made at this place. It is a major fishing port of kerala. Thusharagiri:
Thusharagiri is situated 55 km away from Kozhikode City. This is known as the `Green Splendor` and considered as the major tourist destination in Malabar region. The place has four waterfalls right in the middle of the forest. The waterfalls and streams amidst the hilly regions provide great scenery for the tourists.

Kirtads:
This place is situated at 7km from Kozhikode. In this unique museum the tools and devices used by the ancient tribal communities of Kerala are preserved safely. A good library with books on Anthropology and Sociology is an additional attraction.

Mananchira Square:
This is a new attraction in the heart of the city, Manan-chira-maidan. This is the change of the concept of a planned modern city. The historic maidan, adjacent to Manachira has been converted into a region or area with beautiful trees and plants, artificial hill, shrubs, sculpture, an open-air theatre and above all a musical fountain. Locals and tourists, who are in search of some peace and healthy atmosphere, find shelter here. This is a perfect place for outing or an excursion for a day. The corporation of Kozhikode manages Mananchira Maidan.

Science Centre & Planetarium:
Calicut now acquires a place in the Planetarium map of the world. Regional science centre of Calicut is the place of a 250-seated Planetarium. This is also fitted with a sophisticated Zeiss projector.

The Science centre has numerous puzzles that make mathematics easy. Arrays of rolling balls move in a circular path and perform acrobatics. They ring bells, generate electricity and play musical chimes on their way. Whispers are being carried by parabolic reflectors from one end of the park to the other end. Objects float in space defying gravity. Chemistry brings magic at home. The Science Centre unravels mysteries, explains things which otherwise would be called supernatural. This place is an interesting one for children as well as their parents. The young couple also takes interest in visiting the place regularly.

Tourism in Kozhikode districtGhat Section:
This is thick dense forest and is called the `Cherapunji` of Kerala because of the high availability of the heavy rains. It is about 44 Km from Kozhikode. It is the boundary to Wayanad district. A journey through this ghat section is enjoyable experience. It is 14 km long with nine hairpin curves amidst a number of hills and thick forests. A view from the top will be a breath taking experience. The tourists for its scenic beauty often visit this place.

Kadalundi:
This is situated at 25 km away from Kozhikode. The estuary at kadalundi is a haven for migratory birds. Trens, grulls, herons, sandpipers, whimberels and other exotic birds flock into this place in November and return home in April. Thousands of migratory birds from all over the world gather here during the season, which starts, from November.

The backwater of Kozhikode is a great and perfect place to promote tourism at this district. This backwater is actually hold great promises of enthralling holiday options. Elathur, the Canoil Canal and the Kallai River are favourite destinations for boating. Kadalundi with its beautiful bird sanctuary is a charming site to visit. Korapuzha, the venue of the Korapuzha Jalotsavam is becoming a popular water sport destination very soon. Thus there are enough places to captivate the interests of the tourists.

Kozhikode Beach:
The Beauty and serenity of Kozhikode beach is yet to exploit and develop it into a tourist centre. Still People from all around gather here to enjoy the sunset and it is a popular retreat for local people. The specialty of this place lies in the two sea docks, which are almost 125 years old. These are extending well inside the sea. The Lions Club Children`s park is a happening place for children. Near to this there is an ice-cream parlour, which make evenings pleasant for visiting families. Some of the worth watching scenes of this place are Fisherman with their small rowing boats entering the sea, fighting the waves and returning with varieties of fish.

Vadakara:
This ancient place is now the headquarters of the taluk. There is also a municipality of the same name. There is many-ruined fort in the town. Vadakara was the scene of many exploits of Tacholi Othenan, the hero of thee ballads of north malabar or Vadakkan Pattukal situated at Five km south east of Vadakar in Memunda amsom. It is the Lokanarkavu, which has three rock-cut caves in its vicinity. Annual ceremonies are conducted in memory of `Othenan` whose birthplace is Manikoth near Meppayil. Vadakara is also called because of its location just north to Vadakku of Kotta River. The Orkattery cattle fair is held in the middle of February. It is organized at Orkattery, which is 6.45 km from Vadakara.

Kuttichira Mosque:
From 14th Century onwards Kuttichira was the main square in the Calicut urban area. The square was formed around a tank surrounding which there are several mosques nearby. Muslim traders mainly inhabited this area. Mosques are built in the traditional systems of timber construction with tiered roofs. These mosques are preserved without much alterations and additions from the original form.

Krishna Menon Museum:
This museum is situated adjacent to the Pazhassi Raja Museum. In this art gallery there are lots of paintings of Raja Ravi Varma among the other collections. Kalaman Para Maruthilavu Tourist Spot:

This is a beautiful forest area. This spot is located at the distance of 50 km away from Kozhikode City. This place is situated on the way to Kozhikode-Wayanad National Highway at Chippilithodu.

Kakkad Eco Tourism Centre:
This eco tourism center is located at the distance of 40 km away from Kozhikode City. It is placed on the way to the Kozhikode-Wayanad National Highway at Eangapuzha. The main attractions of this place are Variety of birds, animals and butterflies, Medicinal plants, Rivers, etc. Trucking facility is an added attraction of this place.

Kolamala Eco Tourism:
This Kolamala Eco Tourism is located at the distance of 40 km away from Kozhikode City. This place is placed on the way to the Kozhikode-Wayanad National Highway at Eangapuzha. To reach the place it requires 2 km travel to the West direction. The main attractions of this place are Variety of birds, animals and butterflies and Medicinal plants. Trucking facilities are also available to Kolamala, Koompan mala and Choyiyodu mala. Services of experienced guides are available at this place.
