Kawardha is an administrative district in Chhattisgarh with the city of Kawardha serving as its headquarters. Kawardha is spread out with an area of 4634.98 sq. km. It is bounded by Dindori district to the north, Bilaspur and Durg districts to the east, Rajnandgaon district to the south and Balaghat district to the west. The northern and western parts are surrounded by the Maikal mountain ranges of Satpura. The district is chiefly consists of hills and forests, with an average elevation of 353 metres (1158 feet). According to the 2001 census, Kawardha has a population of 31,788. Climatic conditions range from sweltering summers to extremely cold winters. The economy of Kawardha is chiefly agrarian with substantial area reserved for growing Nira and dual crops.
