Dantewada (Dantewara) district, also known as South Bastar district, is located in Chhattisgarh. The district is part of Bastar Division. Dantewada city serves as its district headquarters. Until 1998, the Dantewada district was a tehsil of the larger Bastar district. Dantewada has an area of 10,238.99 sq. km. It is bounded on the north and northeast by Bastar district, on the east by Malkangiri District of Orissa state, on the south and southwest by Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh state and on the east by the Indravati River, which forms the boundary with Karimnagar district of Andhra Pradesh and Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. Dantewada in v is laced with temples. The different temples of Dantewada with their religious serenity augment the feel of the place. The city of Dantewada is named after Maa Danteshwari, a local goddess, worshipped as an incarnation of `Shakti`. Dantewada in Chhattisgarh is held to be one of the fifty-two sacred `Shakti Peethas`.
Mama Bhanja ka Mandir- Mama Bhanja ka Mandir is a 50 feet high temple enshrining the idols of Ganesh and Narasimha (one of the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu). The temple reminiscences architecture from Dravidian style of work. It has a magnificently carved dome and its outer walls are lined with numerous sculptures. An old Shiva Temple and a Ganesha Temple are situated nearby.
