Teejan Bai is a well-known Pandavani artist. She was born in Atari, in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh in 1954. Teejan Bai learnt the art from her grandfather, Brijlal Pardhi. However, as a woman she was discouraged from performance, and her first marriage broke off because she persisted with acting. She was the first female singer, dancer, and actor in the more theatrical Kapalik variety of the genre, with consummate skills yet an endearing style of taking the audience into her confidence. She became Pandavani`s most readily recognizable face by performing extensively all over the country and at foreign festivals since the 1980s. Her present husband and brother-in-law accompany her on harmonium and dholak.
