Sukha anusayi ragah

This is the seventh yogic sutra that is incorporated within the second phase of Patanjali Yoga Sutras.

Sukha anusayi ragah, Patanjali Yoga SutraThe sukha anusayi ragah yogic sutra states about the exceedingly damaging effects of pleasures and emotional attachments. Worldly senses have a tremendous hold on the human mind and if one starts neglecting yogic austerity, he is sure to be bound within the restraints of provocations, passion, lust, avarice or satisfaction of sensuousness.

sukha happiness, delight, sweetness, pleasure

Pleasure leads to desire and emotional attachment.

Residing on pleasurable experiences inflames desire and a sense of attraction, which induces attachment. Pleasurable experiences spawns greed and lust, which strengthen attachment and provokes a greater passion, as one always wants more and more. One becomes absorbed by the pursuit of pleasure, and addicted to satiation of the senses. The aspirer may thus forget his chosen path and allow himself to be caught up in sorrow and sickness.
