History
The city was earlier known as Shringavali, named after the sage Shringi, was once upon a time covered with dense and unnavigable forests and inhabited by wild animals. The place was considered so treacherous that it was used by the Kings of Rewa State, who ruled the area till 1947.

The area in the eastern part of of Sidhi Distt. in the state of MP and the adjoining southern part of Sonebhadra District.

All these Industrial developments have only been possible because earth has blessed this part of the land with mineable reserves of Coal. Northern Coal fields Limited, the PSU coal major & the highest profit making subsidiary of Coal giant "Coal India Ltd" is the only feeder to these power, chemical & cement plants located within the vicinity of Singrauli Industrial Zone. With many billion tones of coal being mined for the last 35-40 yrs, it still sits on a geographical reserve of more than 8.7 billion tones, which can be mined for another 35-40 Yrs.
