Sigrauli

Singrauli a city of Indian state of Madhya Pradesh is fast emerging as an energy hub of India.

The Township of Singrauli is located in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh, which is about 220 KM from Varanasi (Khasi). Northern coalfields limited, the number one producer of coal in India and some of the thermal power plants are located. The famous Rihand dam is also located here. The Singrauli has become a big business center in Madhya Pradesh.

History
The city was earlier known as Shringavali, named after the sage Shringi, was once upon a time covered with dense and unnavigable forests and inhabited by wild animals. The place was considered so treacherous that it was used by the Kings of Rewa State, who ruled the area till 1947.

Geography
The area in the eastern part of of Sidhi Distt. in the state of MP and the adjoining southern part of Sonebhadra District.

Northern Coal fields Limited, the PSU coal major & the highest profit making subsidiary of Coal giant "Coal India Ltd" is the only feeder to these power, chemical & cement plants located within the vicinity of Singrauli Industrial Zone. With many billion tones of coal being mined for the last 35-40 yrs, it still sits on a geographical reserve of more than 8.7 billion tones, which can be mined for another 35-40 Yrs.

By Rail- There are number of railway roots connected with Singrauli. Nearest railway junction is Singrauli Junction.

As per 2001 Census of India, Singrauli had a population of 185,580. Males constitute 54% and females 46% of the population.18% of the population is under 6 years of age. Singrauli has an average literacy rate of 59%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70%, and female literacy is 46%.
