Shri Vamaj Teerth, GujaratShri Vamaj Teerth located in Gujarat is a Jain pilgrimage centre. The teerth kshetra is situated in near the Vamaj village at a distance of 6 kilometers from the sacred place of Sherisa. The temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Rishabh Dev, the first Jain Tirthankara.

History of Shri Vamaj Teerth
As per historical records Shri Vamaj Teerth dates back to the ancient times. It is believed that the idol of Dada Adishvar belongs to the times of king Samprati. There was once an underground road from Vamaj to Sherisa and it was used in the times of King Samprati. Being an ancient place relic of old buildings can be seen here. The teerth is associated with many miracles and legends. According to a legend the idol of the lord was remained underground for many years. A devotee often dreamt about the location of the idol. As per the dream he went to the particular place and searched for the idol. He found it lying underneath the ground. The teerth finds its mention in `Aloyana Vinati` that was composed by the poet Lavanyagani in the year 1562 of the Vikram Samvat Era. The idol of the Lord was ceremoniously installed in the temple on the thirteenth day of the bright half of the month of Vaishakh in the year 2002 of the Vikram Samvat Era. It was done at the revered hands of Vijayodaysurishvarji.

The idol of Bhagwan Rishabh Dev is believed to possess miraculous powers. Thousands of Jains and non Jains from far off places visit the temple to offer their prayers. It is believed that if prayed with all devotion the Lord fulfils the wishes of the pilgrims.

The temple of Shri Vamaj Teerth housing the deity of Bhagwan Adinath has been well designed. The sculptural work of the temple and the intricate designs stands as a unique specimen of ancient art. The walls and the pillars of the temple are adorned with beautiful paintings and artistic designs. The splendid temple work boast about the artistic skills of the craftsmen. The idol of the Lord is 107 cms in height and is white in colour. It is seated in padmasana posture. The idol has been beautifully carved from a single stone and looks very appealing.

The Temple of Shri Vamaj Teerth organizes many annual gatherings and functions that are celebrated with much enthusiasm. There are provisions for dharamshalas or rest houses for the pilgrims that are well equipped with all modern facilities. There are also facilities for Upashrays, Ayambilshala and Jnanabhandar. The teerth being situated in the midst of beautiful natural surroundings attracts many pilgrims. The scenic beauty and the calm and tranquil environment mesmerize and fascinate the pilgrims. The teerth kshetra is a perfect place for religious activities. It is well connected to road, rail and air. Taxi services and bus services are easily available here. The nearest bus stand is located at Revdar. The nearest railway station is located at Kalol at a distance of 16 kms.
