Shri Osia Teerth

Shri Osia Teerth located in Rajasthan is a Jain pilgrimage centre. It is situated at a distance of 65 kms both from Jodhpur and Falodi and is positioned on the highway between Jodhpur and Falodi. It is dedicated to the twenty-fourth Tirthankara, Lord Mahavira.

History of Shri Osia Teerth
According to history Shri Osia Teerth dates back to the ancient times. It is associated with the origin of Oswals. This teerth kshetra has been visited by Acharya Shri Ratnaprabhasurishvaraji with 500 disciples in 70 in the Vikram Samvat Era. He was the seventh Pattadhara in the line of Lord Parshvanatha. The Acharya imparted many religious sermons to the king Upaladeva, Minister Uhada and to several other members of the Rajput Clans. Impressed by his discourses and knowledge, the kings and others embraced the Jain religion. This Jain temple of Lord Mahavira was got constructed by king Upaladeva. The idol of Lord Mahavira was ceremoniously installed by Acharya Shri Ratnaprabhasuriji. It was constructed by king Samprati. This teerth kshetra is associated with many legends and miracles. According to one legend, the idol of Lord Mahavira led itself underground when the minister Uhada raised the Osia city. Later when the temple was reconstructed in 1017 of the Vikram Samvat Era the idol could be seen and then it was again ceremoniously installed in the temple. The temple is visited by thousands of devotees from different places. It is believed that by worshipping the Lord with full devotion one can get all their wishes fulfilled.

The temple of Shri Osia Teerth is dedicated to Lord Mahavira. The temple has been magnificently decorated with intricate artistic design. The idol of the Lord is 80 cm in height and is golden in colour. It is seated in a padmasana posture. The idol has been beautifully carved and stands as a unique example of ancient architectural beauty. The walls of the temple are adorned with exquisite work of sceneries and several religious incidents. The pillars of the festival pandal are also tastefully decorated that enhance the beauty of the temple. All these artistic designs are full of life. Apart from this there is another attractive and miraculous idol of Shri Adhishthayaka snake in the temple. The idol is popularly known as Shri Puniyababa.

The Temple of Shri Osia Teerth organises many annual gatherings and functions. There are provisions for dharamshalas or rest houses for the pilgrims.
