Secamone emetica

Secamone emetica is an Indian medicinal plant that is widely found in the regions of southern India.

Some common names of this Indian medicinal plant are Shadaburi in Bengali; Siranige hambu in Kannada; and Sangaravalli, Kondam, Kur-Inja, Sagadam, Sarachiru in Tamil.

Secamone emetica is a slender, branched woody climber with brown bark and thick, corky and deeply cleft plant. The leaves are lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, usually 3 to 7 cms long. The flowers of Secamone emetica are yellowish in colour with small bracts. The fruits of this Indian medicinal plant are smooth, slender, straight, and varies from 7 to 7.3 cms in length.

These plants are cultivated due to their medicinal properties. The acrid root of Secamone emetica possesses emetic properties. The roots and leaves are also used to cure diseases like leucorrhoea, fever, dysentery and headache.
