Sarojini Sundaresan is an Indian Classical Vocalist who carries forward the Alathur tradition. Not only thinking respectfully of the Guru Alathur Venkatesa Iyer but also spreading his style all over the world is the noble task undertaken by Sarojini Sundaresan She learnt from the Guru for over 15 years and continues to give concerts extensively. Despite the fact that she had to leave India and live in the UK when husband`s job took her there, her dedication to the art only strengthened. In order to popularize the Alathur tradition of music taught by her great Guru, she not only gives concerts all over the world but also runs schools in the UK and the US aided by her able daughter`--- Apoorva Ragam Music & Dance Magazine Jan-2004.
Sarojini Sundaresan has been reckoned as the only female disciple of Alathur Venkatesa Iyer. From the tender age of 7 years, Sarojini Sundaresan started her training and she underwent training for over one and half decades in the traditional Teacher-Disciple (Guru-Kula) style. She possesses an in depth quality of being a performer as well as a teacher. Today she has been counted as one amongst the few advocators, who is `well versed in rendering difficult nadai Pallavis with ease`.
From her very early teen ages she has started giving performances in highly esteemed concert platforms through out India, the UK, Europe and USA.
As a senior artist of `All India Radio` Sarojini Sundaresan has performed for over 35 years from Tiruchirapalli district, Chennai and Bengaluru stations. She has also performed for Indian Televisions. For krithis, Swarajathis and Jathiswaras, Sarojini Sundaresan has composed various Varnams, Thillana, Chittaswaras. In the field of both music and dance her compositions have been accepted and performed by artists of repute. In different languages of India she has composed tunes for the works of many composers.
