Demography of Sanakarlingapuram
According to the Indian census report of 2001 Sankaralingapuram had a population of 2,274. The males constitute 49% and females constitute 51% of the population. The average literacy rate here is 75%. It is much higher than the national average of 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 82%, and female literacy rate is 69%. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age in Sankaralingapuram.
There are two schools established here, Panchayat Union Elementary School and Government Higher Secondary School.
Pilgrimage centres in Sanakarlingapuram
Sanakarlingapuram is an important pilgrimage centre visited by many people of the village and also from neighbouring villages. Some of the significant temples here are Vinayagar Temple, Murugan Temple, Ayyappan Temple, Nagammal and Veerumallamal Temple, Vinayagar Temple, Maha Devan Temple, Sowdambigai Amman Temple, Ubbittamman Temple, Sivan Temple, Veerubannama Temple and Nagammal Temple. Every year during Chitirai a festival is celebrated for 5 days where people worship Sowdambiga Amman. Small events and few cultural shows are also hosted during the festivals. Besides this the Panguni Pongal festival is also celebrated in the month of Chitrai. Another important festival celebrated in Sanakarlingapuram is Muthalamman Pongal festival. It is celebrated before or after Diwali to please Lord Varuna for rain.
Sanakarlingapuram is well connected with different modes of transport. There are buses that ply from Virudhunagar and Sivakasi for the village. TAMT, a private transport also runs buses between Virudhunagar and Rajapalayam that passes through the village.
