His role in film industry is in fact highly diverse and includes his works as a cameraman, editor, film producer, lyricist, writer and assistant director. However he gained recognition in the film industry for his multi-starrer film Kaante, which turned out to be a huge hit. Most of his films feature Sanjay Dutt in the lead role.

Early Life of Sanjay Gupta
Sanjay Gupta was born on 23rd October 1969. He did his schooling from Palm Beach School at Napean Sea Road and completed his higher studies from Sydenham College at Churchgate, both in Mumbai.

Career of Sanjay Gupta
Sanjay Gupta began his career in the Hindi film industry as an assistant director in the year 1989 under the guidance of legendary director Raj Sippy with the film Shehzaade. He also bagged the opportunity to work with the renowned actors of Bollywood like Shatrughan Sinha and Dharmendra. Next he also worked as an assistant director for Raj Sippy`s Thanedaar starring Jayapradha, Jeetendra and Sanjay Dutt. The film also marked the beginning of a long friendship between Sanjay Dutt and Gupta. For Mira Nair`s classic Kama Suthra: A Tale of Love, Gupta worked in the cinematography department.

Sanjay Gupta, Bollywood Director Sanjay Gupta made his directional debut in 1994 with the film Aatish. In most of his films, Sanjay Dutt was featured in the lead role. A few of his initial ventures did not fare well in the box office. However he marked his presence in Bollywood in 2002 with the multi-starrer Kaante starring Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt. The film gained huge success at the box office, earning him a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Director. His film Zinda also received commercial as well as critical appreciations. Dus Kahaniyan and Shootout at Lokhandwala under the direction of Sanjay Gupta also received great success however his other films like Pankh and Woodstock Villa could not achieve much applause. In the year 2013, he co-produced and directed the movie Shootout at Wadala with Balaji Motion Pictures which was a sequel of his 2007 film Shootout at Lokhandwala. The movie once again marked a huge hit of his directional career and earned critical and commercial praises. His other notable movies include Khauff, Musafir, Plan and others. Sanjay Gupta has also set up a studio and production house with Sanjay Dutt with the name White Feather Films.

Personal Life of Sanjay Gupta
Sanjay Gupta had married Anu Lekhi in the year 1997 but the couple divorced later. However, 5 years later, they remarried.
