Salim Ali National Park is also referred to as the City Forest National Park and is situated in Srinagar in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The total area covered by this national park measures nearly about 9.07 square kilometers and it was named in the honour of Salim Ali, the famous Indian ornithologist. The Salim Ali National Park was named so officially in the year 1986. This place was transformed into a golf course by the erstwhile Chief Minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir named Farooq Abdullah between the period 1998 and 2001; then it was named Royal Springs Golf Course.

The most prominent flora of Salim Ali National Park is the Mangrove Shrubbery which is thronged by innumerable birds as their favourite shelter spot.
Fauna of Salim Ali National Park
Salim Ali National Park provides refuge to several animals most of which have been categorised as endangered species. Kashmiri Antelope, Jackal, Himalayan Serow, Chakkar, Flying Fox, Leopard, Himalayan Black Bear, Musk Deer and Crocodile are amongst the various animals here. As many as 70 species of birds consisting of Ring Dove, Paradise Flycatcher, Himalayan Snowcock, Coot, Pintail, Kingfisher, Himalayan Monal are also existent in this national park. The World Wildlife Fund for Nature and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) have played a major role in ushering some animals of endangered species into this place.
Visiting Information on Salim Ali National Park
The ideal time for visiting this national park is between April and November though the climate is generally warm all the year round. Srinagar International Airport and Srinagar Railway Station are the nearest to reach the national park. National Highway 19 and 44 connect Srinagar to other major cities of India.
